Sermon Series: Reforming Sexuality
Reforming Sexuality: Why talk about Sex?
We live in a sexualized culture. It makes sense because we are sexual beings--we were designed this way by God. Unfortunately, what God formed as a means to reflect His glory man has deformed through sin. The culture denies this. They believe that the sexual revolution led to a throwing off the chains of repression, that the church has nothing to offer but slavery.
Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. God is not some divine prude who doesn't want us to enjoy something He created. Unfortunatley, the church has run scared for many years, cowering in timidity and shame. The condemning response of the church is not the way to redeem sex from the darkness it is under. It's not enough to show what is wrong...we must provide an alternative which in fact is the original design all together--Sex is God's idea. This series aims to reform sexuality by reveals God's plan for sex in a clear. positive, and frank way.
Series Outline:
God and Sex
Sex was not an idea of man, it's God's idea. Before the fall of man, sex existed within the marriage of our first parents and they were told to "be fruitful". Sex is meant to be more than just making babies; within marriage, we are designed to be "drunk with love." audio/notes
Sin and Sex Sin did something to us. It separted us from God, each other, creation, even ourselves. As a result of the fall, sex gave way to lust and abandoned the intimacy that God intended to exist as part of the experience. audio/notes
Men and Sex
Culture hasn't a clue about how a man is supposed to love a woman. Jesus is the perfect example of a husband. If we want to know how to love our brides, we must understand how Jesus loves his. If we fail to love our brides the way Jesus loves his, we preach a false truth about Jesus. audio/notes
Women and Sex
God intends for women to feel captiviated--to feel beautiful. Men and women are different and, therefore, experience the curse of sin differently. Here we'll focus on God's expectations for women, how they struggle, and how Jesus is reforming the lives of our women. audio/notes
Self and Sex
In our pursuit to understand sex we have settled for lowest forms of gratifcation. We settle for less. In this study we'll consider lust...all its forms...and try to answer some honest questions that every asks about pornography, masturbation, and all kinds of other things that will make you squirm in your seat. audio/notes
