The Spectacle is a publication of Damascus Road Church.  It has two precise goals.  First, it provides a place for people skilled in media to use their gifts to glorify God.  Churches often find a place for musicians, public speakers, and administrators to "plug in" and serve, but neglect the other gifts that can be used to edify the body.  We hope that this publication is a place for artists, poets, writers, and observers to step out from behind the curtain and use the gifts that God has given to glority Him and strengthen His church.Spectacle Art

Second, we want The Spectacle to be a place to grow. As the title infers, we hope to help create a lense through which you view all of life.  This lens is more commonly referred to as worldview, and is defined most clearly by James Sire who says:

"A worldview is a commitment, a fundamental orientation of the heart, that can be expressed as a story or in a set of presuppositions (assumptions which may be true, partially true, or entirely false) which we hold (consciously or subconsciously, consistently or inconsistently) about the basic constitution of reality, and that provides the foundation on which we live and move and have our being."

More simply put, our worldview is what we believe.  It's not what we say we believe, but what is at teh core of our being affecting the way we think and act. If we're honest, there is often a conflict between how we view the world and how God says we should view the world.  Usually, we resolve this conflict by ignoring or revising God's Word.  The Spectacle exists as a forum to challenge our thinking about God, the world, and how we live our everyday lives.  The Spectacle will not solve the great intellectual or social problems o fthis world, but we aim to point you to one who can.
