This is part 1 (Sin, Salvation, Servitude) of a three part study of the Heidelberg Catechism (1563) is one of the most influential and widely used summary of essential truths to come out of the reformation period. A catechism is simply an organized summary of essential doctrines in the form of questions and answers. It is very easy to follow, understand, and remember.
As part of the “Three Forms of Unity”, the Heidelberg Catechism along with the Westminster Standards, was prepared specifically for preaching as well as teaching. The plan of the catechism follows the outline of Paul’s letter to the Romans, and provides the answer to man’s deepest question, while outlining the Gospel beautifully in a nutshell with the answer to it’s opening question: Salvation in Christ is our only comfort in life and in death.
Studying from arguably one of the most beautiful summaries of the Christian faith, the Heidelberg Catechism promises to stimulate any appetite for the Word of God with its commitment to the Bible in its entirety, as the Word of God written. (Teacher: David Petrie
