Who are you?
Damascus Road consists of a diverse number of people from different ages, backgrounds, and styles. We're not some sort of "club" with kool-aid and secret handshakes. We're simply a community of people sold out to the gospel of Jesus, not afraid to admit our weaknesses, laugh at ourselves, and enjoy life. Whoever you are, we want to welcome you with open arms and make you feel right at home. Learn more about our name and what we believe.
When do you meet?
We meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00am (the earliest possible time we could conceive of being Christians).
Where do I go?
Damascus Road does not have it's own building. We meet in Allen Creek Elementary school in Marysville, WA. If you are interested in coming you can click here for directions from Google maps. Once you arrive at the school, enter the West entrance and go down the main hallway toward the gym. There will be people to direct you. We actually meet in the cafeteria. It is to the left of the Gym.
What do I wear?
That's simple, where what you feel is comfortable. As much as we would love to help you pick out your outfit, this is up to you. The environment is informal, so come as you are. There is no need to dress up and be someone you're not. On any given day you might see an occasional tie, some flip-flops, dresses, shorts, or jeans with holes. Other than American Flag embossed speedos, which we vehemently frown upon, we don't expect anyone to look a particular way.
What about my kids?
We have something for your kids to enjoy too. As you come down the hallway toward the gym, there are stations set up for you to drop off your kids. We have a nursery for the babies, and classrooms for the older kids.
What can I expect?
Going somewhere for the first time can be a bit intimidating if you don't know what is going to actually happen. To avoid any worries, here is a basic summary of a typical service:
People usually arrive a little before the service begins to grab some coffee and talk. The service will begin with a few announcements about upcoming events or other news. We'll pray and the band will read some verses of scripture as they begin to lead us in worship through song. Feel free to sing or just enjoy asking yourself, "Can they play this kind of music in church?" The sermon, or message, will follow a couple of songs. Basically, the pastor will take you through a passage in the Bible where we will study who God is, who we are, and how we understand the world we live in. Following the sermon we will enter into a time of communion where we remind ourselves of our love and need for Jesus and remember His promise to return. The band plays during this time and service ends with fellowship.
Should I give?
No, you won't even see the offering plate passed. God isn't interested in your money and neither are we. There are people who attend who have committed to supporting this mission. If you haven't accepted Jesus as your savior, don't give, receive the free gift of salvation.
Is it just Sundays?
Living a life for Jesus doesn't just happen on Sundays. We believe that God has placed in specific times and places where we are to live like Jesus in and through every part of our life. Like Jesus, we spend most of our time in the world, loving it, and redeeming it with truth. We find encouragment by meeting together during the week in bible studies, community groups, or simply playing poker. Watch our calendar for upcoming events.
